Denim has well and truly shed it’s uncool status. The new Michael Kors Sloan Bag embraces the trend for the new season – it’s now available in quilted denim and a chevron pattern. Britney and Justin would be proud.
At first sight, the Sloan resembles the classic Chanel Boy until you realise it’s compartment galore on the inside. With several interior pockets to hold your phone, cards, lipstick and compact, it’s the perfect excuse to ditch your oversized tote for a compact that carries the essentials.

When it comes to creating stuff we didn’t know we wanted until we set our eyes upon them, Michael Kors is king, especially when they all come with affordable price tags that won’t hurt our wallets much. And with the festive season just around the corner, the American everything-also-have powerhouse has thoughtfully created 5 capsule collections, each named after a world city or a drool-worthy resort destination with merchandise curated for each locale. From Saint Tropez‘s gold on gold on gold (my eyes did hurt after a while) to London’s quilted leather beauties, Tokyo (shown above) is perhaps my favourite, what with a balanced offering of bling, crystals and studs to see ourselves into the new year.
From the studded Selma (SGD499) to the Nadine slip-ons (SGD269) that come with crystals arranged into little flowers, you could also pick up the iPhone case (SGD99) and the Curb Chain Necklace (SGD679) for that extra touch of bling. Check them out, along with all the other capsule offerings, now at Michael Kors boutiques located at Scotts Square and VivoCity.

MICHAEL KORS
I know. I KNOW. But hear me out, okay?
MICHAEL Michael Kors has a perception problem, especially when it comes to accessories. Selling expensive handbags is always a bit of a paradox; a brand has to sell enough of them to maintain its bottom line and please investors while still making consumers feel like they are buying something that's at least a little bit rare and aspirational, and once a brand reaches a certain point of critical mass, the only direction for it to go is down. Even when bags are objectively attractive, fashion's classism rears its ugly head when people of more modest means start to acquire status markers that were once inaccessible to them.
When you combine that with a product mix that's allowed to get a bit stale, fashion shoppers get very skittish, which is, in my mind, a fair assessment of what's happened with public perception of MICHAEL Michael Kors bags over the past couple years. The brand hung on to things like logo charms and chunky gold hardware a little too long, and that, combined with the brand's aspirational-but-not-astronomical price point, made the bags seem like yesterday's news.
MMK is a huge brand that wants to please its customers, though, so I figured it wouldn't be long before the brand's handbag line tightened up and debuted some styles that felt fresh and relevant. Thankfully, I was right, and the Pre-Fall 2016 bags from MICHAEL Michael Kors give me hope for what's to come. Many of the new styles have ditched the familiar metallic charms and big hardware for a sleeker, cleaner, more modern aesthetic--they're the kinds of bags that a lot of women would be proud to carry to work, and many of them are even free of the familiar gold-lettered Kors branding.
One thing the new MMK bags do retain, thankfully, is the brand's accessible price point. Check out some of the best new arrivals below or shop the full lineup via Neiman Marcus. (If you're an old school Kors fan and want the logos and charms, don't worry--there's still a good bit of that going on this season.)

If I had to pick just a favourite from everything that’s camo-ed at MICHAEL Michael Kors now, it would be the Bedford Camo Zip Clutch, which was also my travel companion when I was in Bangkok last week. Besides the fact that it comes in camouflage print (for which I’m naturally attracted to, like magpies to shiny trinkets), the pattern is printed on the faux calf hair, which covers the exterior of the zip clutch.
Measuring almost 27 cm across by 14 cm in height, there’s something extra lush about it being in calf hair and all, finished simply with a wrist strap and a small Michael Kors logo in gold, which is the way I like it.
On the inside you’ll find a monogram print on its lining (nay), with multiple slots for cards and cash (yay). Best thing? It only costs SGD269, which is way affordable compared to other brands big on the camouflage trend at the moment.
Now available at MK stores in Scotts Square and VivoCity, you’ll also find a decent selection of bags and more SLGs with the same camouflage print, from compact wallets to large Jet Set totes.

There is absolutely nothing mellow about this yellow! Michael Kors once again comes out with a swoonworthy bag, playing off the major spring/summer drawstring bucket bag trend. And there is no exaggeration when I say swoonworthy. This bag is fresh to the shelves over at ShopBop, and there are only two left in the Daffodil! What I love most about the silhouette are the clean lines and classic hardware.
The Mariana is dressed in a vibrant Daffodil yellow leather. Features an easy-access slim patch pocket in front, drawstring top, suede-backed interior with 1 pocket, plus a convenient adjustable cross-body strap.

A true quilted beauty, the Michael Kors Susannah! My first thought: Chanel look without the Chanel price tag. Of course, there is no way that I am the only one who thinks this. Sure, tons of high-end and even contemporary designers have played with quilted detailing in the past, not anything new. Chanel isn’t the only designer who has come out with designs that use the quilted leather and leather woven gold chain shoulder straps, however combined together on the same bag leaves an image that is too iconic to ignore.
Regardless of the similarities, this Michael Kors Susannah is stunning. The size and long straps make it the perfect candidate for an everyday work bag or even as a weekend adventure tote. However one little tiny detail that I can’t get over, is that MK logo charm. If I had this bag in my closet, that would have to go. Anyone else? The design should stand on it’s own, and that it why I prefer my bags logo-less.
